Under Zayden’s watchful eye, Melon gave him a puzzled look, tilted his head, and said, “Uncle Zayden, what’s up with you? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Zayden clenched his teeth but managed to smile at Melon. “It’s nothing. I was just looking for my phone a moment ago. Thanks for finding it for me.”
Trying to keep his cool, Zayden slipped his phone into his pocket.
With Ariana knowing that Melon was here, he realized he couldn’t hand Melon over to his men now.
Grabbing Zayden’s hand, Melon suggested, “Uncle Zayden, let’s wait for my Mom by the entrance to the amusement park. She said she’d be there soon.”

Now, he had to suppress his irritation and escort Melon to the entrance of the amusement park to meet Ariana.
As they headed there, Melon kept the conversation going with Zayden.
He asked Zayden all sorts of odd questions about Zayden’s family.
This was particularly grating for Zayden, whose day was already ruined.
Yet, Zayden couldn’t just snap at Melon. After spending the entire afternoon together, he didn’t want to reveal his frustration too openly. All he could do was bite his tongue and act kindly, secretly wishing Ariana would come and take Melon off his hands soon.
Ariana showed up at the amusement park entrance, visibly worried.
Before Zayden could even call out to her, she had already scooped Melon into her arms.
She was so focused on Melon that she barely noticed Zayden, quickly checking the boy over for any signs of harm.
Seeing Ariana’s blatant concern, Zayden couldn’t hide his displeasure and said icily, “Melon’s fine. We just went out to have a bit of fun.”
Ariana shot him a look and retorted sarcastically, “You really have too much time on your hands, taking someone else’s child out like it’s nothing. I was half-convinced Melon had been snatched by kidnappers.”
Internally, Zayden cursed Ariana under his breath. He looked at her with a tight-lipped smile, muttering to himself, “Who could possibly snatch your son? He’s far too clever.” It took the whole afternoon for him to play with the boy.
